আজ ডারউইন দিবস

আজ প্রকৃতিবিদ, বিবর্তনবাদের জনক চার্লস রবার্ট ডারউইন এর জন্মদিবস। আজ সারা বিশ্বের বিজ্ঞান সচেতন মানুষ "ডারউইন দিবস (Darwin Day)" পালন করছে। আজ থেকে ২০০ শত বৎসর আগে ১৮০৯ সালের এই দিনে ডারউইন এক সম্ভ্রান্ত পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। স্কুল পালানো ছেলে ডারউইন পরবর্তীকালে বিবর্তন বাদ নামক এক যুগান্তকারী তত্ত্বের জন্ম দেন। এই তত্ত্বের মাধ্যমে তিনি মানুষ ও অন্যান্য প্রাণী এবং উদ্ভিদের জন্ম, বেড়ে ওঠা ও মৃত্যু সম্বন্ধে এমন কিছু কথা বলেন যা প্রচলিত ঈশ্বর আশ্রয়ী ধারণার সম্পূর্ণ বিপরীত। ডারউইন এক নতুন কথা শোনালেন। তিনি প্রচলিত ধারণা ও বিশ্বাসের মূলে কঠোর আঘাত হানলেন। তিনি আমাদেরকে জানালেন যে কোন অলৌকিক ফু দিয়ে এই পৃথিবী ও বিশ্বব্রহ্মান্ডসহ মানবপ্রজাতির সৃষ্টি হয়নি। কোন রকম 'কুন' বা 'টুনটুন' বলার মাধ্যমে প্রাণীজগত মাটি ফুড়ে পৃথিবীর মধ্যে উপস্থিত হয়নি। আকাশ থেকেও ধপাস ধপাস করে ডাইনোসর, হাতী, তিমি, বাঘ ইত্যাদি প্রাণী মাটিতে পরেনি। তিনি বলেছেন যে বৈজ্ঞানিক নিয়ম অনুযায়ী পরিবেশের প্রভাব অনুযায়ী, অনেক সময় নিয়ে, ধীর গতিতে প্রাণীসমুহের বিকাশ হয়েছে। তারা বিলুপ্ত হয়েও গেছে সেরকম কোন দীর্ঘমেয়াদী কারণে।
